Stalder Technologies and Research (STAR) is a small business enterprise, providing scientific and engineering services to corporate, academic, and government clients. STAR was founded by Kenneth R. Stalder, Ph.D., who for over 40 years has conducted scientific investigations spanning a wide variety of technologies, ranging from nuclear fusion to semiconductor plasma processing to biomedical device physics. This work has been conducted in high-technology companies as well as government-, academic-, and not-for-profit-laboratories. We help clients solve difficult technical problems and answer questions using a variety of disciplines, concentrating on physics and chemistry combined with related engineering disciplines.
Located in Palo Alto, CA, STAR is headed by Dr. Stalder, and draws on other recognized leaders in their fields who are brought in as needs of particular projects are defined. Our small business structure allows us to respond quickly to your needs. We are able to provide worldwide coverage and can conduct work at your site, at our site, or third party sites.
Dr. Stalder is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and is recognized internationally for his work on ionized gases, and most recently on electrical discharges and plasmas in liquids. He is a reviewer for many journals and organizations, including the Journal of Applied Physics, Applied Physics Letters, Review of Scientific Instruments, Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, Physics of Plasmas, Plasmas Sources Science and Technology and IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science. He has also reviewed proposals for the National Science Foundation, NASA , the U. S. Army Research Office and other organizations. He has worked on defense and prosecution of intellectual property for high-technology clients.
Much of our work is interdisciplinary and, depending on client needs, can be be analytical, experimental, computational, or educational. Consulting and prototype development is also available. STAR maintains an extensive library of technical books, reports, publications, and software. In addition, we have access to academic libraries and internet-based information databases. Work products are defined at the beginning of a project and may include technical reports, software, documentation, consulting, or prototypes.
